1. Progress not perfection
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu promotes continuous self-improvement. In the beginning, your child may get impatient when they don’t notice results right away. Instructors will teach your kids to set goals and show them how to work towards them. Setting goals is an important quality to have both in Martial Arts and in life because it will give your child short-term motivation and long-term vision. With this, they will know how to organize their time and resources so they can make the best out of every class or situation. With hard work and drive your child will notice their progress and learn to embrace the journey.
2. Your child will believe in themselves
Consistency is key to all progress. With every class, your child will learn new techniques that they will eventually be able to execute. Encouragement and positive reinforcement from their instructors will help them keep pushing. But, the key here is that your child will become more assertive in the work and time they are putting in, giving them the confidence to keep working hard.
As parents, we know how hard it is to get our child to sit down and eat, let alone get other tasks done. Brazilian Jitsu Jitsu requires thought-processing and attention to detail which means being able to focus on their instructor teaching the position and being able to follow instructions to execute them is vital to further progress. With this, the child will subsequently have to rely on focusing to reach their goals.
4. Patience is virtue
In todays fast-paced world, with technology at our fingertips, we can get anything we want, when we want. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu on the other hand, takes time and patience to achieve results. Perfecting a technique does not come from night to day, belt promotions require hard work, but with time and a bit of patience and plenty of FUN, your child will learn a quality they can use in their day to day.
5. Health and Wellness
As parents, we always wonder if we’re doing the right thing. With Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, you’ll never have to second guess yourself. BJJ will improve their overall coordination and stamina as well as increasing their heart-rate for the best hour of their day! A Healthy child is a happy child. You’ll find your child dragging you out the door to go to class (we can all agree that is a win-win situation).
